Shaggy

Orville Richard Burrell better known as Shaggy is a Jamaican born (Oct 22) reggae singer/rapper. He is best known for UK #1 and international hits, "Oh Carolina" and "Boombastic". His debut single, "Oh carolina" was a cover version of the Folkes Brothers (1960) reached #1 in the UK in March 1993. It featured numerous samples including Henry Mancini's "Peter Gunn Theme," James Brown "make it funny" and "Get on the good foot", "Looney Tunes" also spent 1 week at #1 on Canada Dance Chart in July 1993. Shaggy followed up with a top 5 hit Mungo Jerry's "In the summertime" featuring Rayvon. "Boombastic" sampled King Floyd's "Baby Let Me Kiss You" (1971) and based on the Levi's Jeans TV ad campaign at the time, reached #1 in the UK. "Boombastic" these days is a go-to song when you want some sexy music in a TV show or movie. It reached #3 in the states (as a double A side with "In the summertime").

What happened next?
Shaggy would continue his success into new millenium with two further UK#1 hits, "It wasn't me" (featuring Rikrok) and "Angel" (featuring Ravyon). It is a little surprising that since 2002, Shaggy has only had one UK top 40 hit, "I need your love" (reached #36 in 2014). His latest offering was the album, "Hot Shot 2020".
