Take That

Take That are an English boy band that originally consisted of Gary Barlow (Jan 20), Robbie Williams (Feb 13), Mark Owen (Jan 27), Howard Donald (Apr 28), Jason Orange (Jul 20). They are best known as a group for 8 UK# 1s including "Babe" and "Back for good". Both Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams had 2 solo UK #1s after they disbanded the first time. After a year of formation, Take That made an auspicious debut when "Promises" creeped into the Top 40. Their follow-up "It only takes a minute" drew a lot of attention in the summer of 1992 when it gave them their first Top 10. They covered Barry Manilow's "Could it be magic", which gave them their first top 3. Finally, they scored their first charttopper with "Pray". Their follow-up with Lulu "Relight my fire" also made #1. In fact, Take That would go on to score a sequence of 4 consecutive #1 before "Love ain't here anymore" only made #3. Once again they scored another sequence of 4 consecutive #1s ending with their final song before they split the first time (announced in an infamous press conference to address 'the rumour was true' on February 13 1996), the old Bee Gees track "How Deep Is Your Love". Robbie had already left in 1995 to pursue a solo career when the group split in 1996 for solo projects. Mark Owen had two top 3 hits, while Gary Barlow continued the sequence of UK #1s with "Forever Love" and "Love won't wait" (6 in a row including Take That). Robbie Williams scored two chart toppers with "Millienium" and "She's the one", although arguably he is best known for "Angels".

What happened next?
Take That announced on November 25, 2005 in another press conference that the rumour was true about a reformation. This was without Robbie Williams. In mid 2010, Robbie Williams rejoined but left again in 2014. Later in 2014, Jason Orange decided to leave for good. This left up until the time of writing Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald.Their last effort was the 30th anniversairy "Odyssey" tour in 2018/2019. In May 2020, the group with Robbie performed a virtual performance hosted by price comparison website comparethemarket.com, to raise money for the music charity Nordoff Robbins and Crew Nation. Gary Barlow released an album "Music played by humans" and is going on a UK tour in 2021 with Leona Lewis as guest. He has also put together the "Crooner Sessions" videos where he has dueted a number of stars, past and present, which is a good listen if you want a little nostaglia Howard Donald has been doing odd bit of DJ-ing (appeared at the BST Rave on March 27 2021) amongst some TV appearances.
