Fatboy Slim

Quentin Leo Cook, better known as Norman Cook or Fatboy Slim is an English musician, DJ, and record producer who helped to popularise the big beat genre in the 1990s. Previously he was a member of the successful 80s outfit, The Housemartins. He is best known for the UK singles and UK Dance chart topper, "Praise you" and the UK#2 hit "Right here right now" both in 1999. He has used a lot of samples in his songs. "Rockafeller skank" sampled the Just Brothers' "Sliced Tomatoes" and John Barry Seven's "Beat Girl". "Gangster Trippin" sampled Dust Junkys' "Beatbox Wash (Rinse It Remix)". "Praise You" contained a sample from a live version of Camille Yarborough's "Take Yo Praise". "Right here right now" sampled James Gang's "Ashes, The Rain And I" and an Angela Bassett quote from the movie "Strange Days". Other projects that Fat Boy Slim was part of include being part of Beats International, Double Trouble, Mighty Dub Katz and Pizzaman. Also he remixed Cornershop's "Brimful of Asha," which pushed it all the way to UK#1 in 1998.

What happened next?
In 2000, Fatboy Slim released his third studio album, Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars, and featured two collaborations with Macy Gray and "Weapon of Choice", which also was made into an award-winning video starring Christopher Walken. In 2003, he produced Crazy Beat and Gene by Gene from the Blur album Think Tank, and in 2004, Palookaville was Cook's first studio album for four years. Fatboy Slim's greatest hits album "Why Try Harder" was released on 19 June 2006. It included ten Top 40 singles, a couple of number ones ("Praise you" and "Brimful of Asha") and two new tracks "Champion Sound" and "That Old Pair of Jeans". Most of the songs were shortened and heavily edited, resulting in almost fifteen minutes of unused space on the compact disc release.
