Vanessa Williams

Vanessa Lynne Williams or just Vanessa Williams is an American born (Mar 18) singer and actress. She initially gained recognition as the first African-American woman to receive the Miss America title when she was crowned Miss America 1984 in 1983 although later forced to resign over Penthouse publishing unauthorised nude photographs of her. She embarked on a music career and had initial success in the States where in 1991, her second album, "The Comfort Zone" brought #1 on the R&B chart and #2 on the dance chart in the States with "Running back to you". But it was the release of the song that memorably opens with the line "Sometimes the snow comes down in June" that brought international attention. Not only did "Save the best for last" reach #1 in the states, it reached #1 in Australia and Canada and peaked at #3 in the UK. She'd have 2 further US top 5s with "Love is" (with Brian McKnight) in 1993 and "Colors of the wind" from the soundtrack to the 1995 movie, Pocahontas.
