Nomad

Nomad is an English house music group and consisted of Damon Rochefort, Steve McCutcheon (Steve Mac) and Sharon D Clarke. The group was the brainchild of Damon (whose name backwards is Nomad). They are best known for their dance chart #1 and UK#2 hit "(I Wanna Give You) Devotion" and featured/credited MC Mikee Freedom in 1991. They had another top 20 hit with "Just a groove".

90 Hits (Discography):

May 1991 16	Just A Groove

What happened next?
The band disbanded after the release of "24 Hours a Day" in 1992 for other projects. Damon Rochefort wrote songs for acts including Elton John, RuPaul, Bad Boys Inc. Michelle Gayle and Kim Wilde. After meeting Alomo’s Marks & Gran at a sitcom workshop, he got into script writing and wrote episodes for "Birds of Feather". This led to other projects like eventually for "Boyz R Us" and "Last Gasp" before going on to write for "Coronation Street". He also presented ITV's dance show, "BPM". He also wrote first theatrical piece "Live At Carnegie Hall" in association with The Royal Ballet, a tribute to Judy Garland which premiered at The Royal Opera House and toured the US and Australia.
Steve Mac became a record producer and songwriter of his own. He'd first be a member of the group Undercover but then striking a partnership with Wayne Hector co-wrote a number of chart songs. He has scored 30 UK #1 hits and has worked with musicians including Ed Sheeran, Melanie C, Pink, Westlife, Little Mix, to name a few. Sharon Dee Clarke went on to make a career primarily in TV/theatre and has won multiple Laurence Olivier Awards:

  • 2014: Best Actress in a Supporting Role (James Baldwin's The Amen Corner)
  • 2018: Best Actress in a Musical (Caroline, or Change)
  • 2020: Best Actress in a Play (Death of a Salesman)
