Mark Summers

In the early 90s, there was trend for raving up children's tv theme tunes (called Cartoon Rave). The first of those tracks to hit the UK Top 40 was by Mark Summers with a track called "Summers Magic", which ironically hit the charts in middle of winter. The track used the theme tune to the "Magic Roundabout".

What happened next?
Whilst Mark Summers registered Summers Magic as his only hit, he has become far more succesful as a producer and sound engineer. He founded and still owns the music production company, Scorrccio in 1996. He provided music for Shapeshifters UK #1 "Lola's Theme", Pitbull "I Know You Want Me", Bob Sinclar, Diplo, Disclosure, The Prodigy, Defected, Spinnin', Armada Records. Winner of an MTV VMA award in 2005 for Best Game Soundtrack "Dance Dance Revolution" (Konami/PlayStation). A London DJ since 1979, he is a guest lecturer and masterclass presenter on sample replay production, sound engineering, DJ culture, sampling and the music industry. . Guest Speaker on panel discussions at the New Music Seminar in New York, June 2015. His productions have been featured on hits for Diplo, Sam Smith, The Prodigy, Pitbull, Fatboy Slim, David Penn, Jess Glynne, Disclosure, Steve Aoki, CamelPhat, Swedish House Mafia and many other notable music artists.

Mark Morrison

Mark Morrison is an English born (May 3) R&B singer, best known for UK chart-topper, "Return of the Mack" in 1996. He had moderate early success with "Crazy" and "Let's get down" before releasing the monster "Return of the Mack". Never understand why but with UK acts back then, they have to wait over 6 months before release in North America. This was the case with "Return of the Mack" as it reached #2 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the Canada dance chart nearly year later in 1997. Back in the UK, he followed up with the remix of "Crazy", which sampled Kool and the Gang's "Jungle Boogie" into the UK Top 10. He had a total of 5 Top 10 hits all from the "Return of the Mack" album. Altogether, he had 9 Top 40 hits in the 90s.

What happened next?
Mark Morrison had the reputation of being the bad boy of UK R&B and his troubles with the law is well documented. But he has managed get himself together and returned to Leicester where he is developing a project, MackLife Studios Creative Hub to help young people off the streets, away from a potential life of crime. Musically, he and Chris Brown were featured on G-Eazy's single, "Provide" in 2021.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is an American born (Mar 27) singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. Known for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register, she is referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" by Guinness World Records. She has also been referred to as the "Queen of Christmas". In 1990, Her debut single, the ballad "Vision of Love" reached #1 on the US Chart. This was the first of 5 consectutive #1s there. "Love Takes Time", "Someday" and "I don't wanna cry" all from Mariah's epononymous album and the title track from Mariah's second album, "Emotions" made the top spot. She would go on to have 10 more US #1s including Heartbreaker which sampled Stacy Lattisaw's Attack Of The Name Game. Ironically, her only UK #1, Nillson's "Without you" failed to reach the top in the states.

Marc Almond

Mark Peter Sinclair Almond, OBE, better known as Marc Almond is an English born (July 9) singer-songwriter who started of as one half of duo Soft Cell (with Dave Ball) before making it on his own. In the 1990s, his biggest hit was the old David McWilliams song, "The days of Pearly Spencer", which reached #4 on the UK chart.

Mantronix

Mantronix was an American dance outfit from New York City. The band consisted of DJ Kurtis Mantronik (Kurtis el Khaleel) and rapper MC Tee (Toure Embden). Their style was a pioneering blend of old school hip hop, electro funk and club music. They are best known for the UK Top 10 hits "Got to have your love" and "Take your time" both featuring the vocal of Wondress.

Madonna

Madonna Louise Ciccone (better known as Madonna, Madge or her Madgesty in the UK) is an American born (Aug 16) singer, songwriter and actress. Often referred to as the "Queen of Pop" is regarded as one of the most influential figures in popular culture, known for reinvention, versatility and longetivity. People may argue her best work was in the 1980s (with in the UK alone, 6 UK #1's amongst 23 Top 20 hits). But 1990s provided Madonna with a full decade of hits, 29 UK Top 20 hits and 2 UK chartoppers with "Vogue" (4 weeks in April 1990) and "Frozen" (1 week in March 1998).

Love Inc

Love Inc is a Canadian dance act consisting of founder Chris Sheppard, Brad Daymond and Simone Denny. They had a number of hits in the late 90s scoring 4 dance chart #1s in native Canada with "Broken Bones", "You're a superstar", "Homeless" and "Who do u love".

What happened next?
Daymond left the group to pursue a successful remix and production career with Alex Greggs as "Riprock & Alex G". Sheppard and Denny continued as a duo and in 2000 reelased a second album, "Into the night" with "Here comes the sunshine being their 5th Canada Dance #1. Soon afterwards the duo disbanded. Ironically after the breakup, Love Inc had international success when "You're a superstar" reached #7 in Decemeber 2002 and "Broken Bones" reached #8 in May 2003.
Sheppard launched his own label Pirate Records. In 2013, Denny returned to performing with a touring version of Love Inc., this time billing themselves as "Love Inc. Featuring Simone Denny," performing the band's songs at nightclubs across Canada. Brad Daymond (born Bradley Daymond Ralph on February 22, 1970 in Missisauga, Ontario, Canada) died on August 3, 2018 from complications after a cardiac arrest he had suffered three months earlier, at the age of 48. Denny recently reflected on her time with Love Inc.

Los Del Rio

Los Del Rio (or The Del Rios) are a Spanish Latin pop and dance duo which was formed in 1962 by Antonio Romero Monge (born 1948) and Rafael Ruiz Perdigones (born 1948). Best known for their international hit dance single "Macarena", which reached #1 in many countries including Australia, most of Europe and USA.

Lonnie Gordon is an American born (Nov 8) female Hi-NRG, House and Soul music singer-songwriter. Best known for the song "Happenin' all over again", which reached #4 in the UK charts in 1990. It eventually reached #1 on the US Dance chart in 1993.

Londonbeat

Londonbeat is a British-American dance-pop band who scored a number of pop and dance hits in the early 1990s. The band consisted of American Jimmy Helms (who also had a successful solo career and sang radio jingles for Radio Hallam and Hereward Radio in the UK), Trinidadian born (Jan 29) Jimmy Chambers and Charles Pierre. Other members over the years included multi-instrumentalist William Henshall (credited as Willy M), George Chandler (formerly a founding member and frontman of Olympic Runners), Marc Goldschmitz (subsequently a member of the band Leash) and Myles Kayne. Before the 90s, they are best known for the UK Top 20 hit, "9am". In 1990, they scored a US #1, Canada Dance chart #1 and UK #2 hit, "I've been thinking about you". In 1995, they had US Dance #1 with "Come back"

What happened next?
In 2003, Londonbeat re-grouped with a new lineup and signed to German record label Coconut. An album called Back in the Hi-Life featured re-recordings of "A Better Love" and "I've Been Thinking About You" among the new tracks. Marc Goldschmitz left the band in 2004. Currently living in Berlin, he now plays guitar in the band Leash. In 2011, Londonbeat were featured on two tracks on The Crossing (Expansion Records) by Brazilian pianist Eumir Deodato, the title track (with guest percussionist Paco Sery) and "No Getting Over You". In 2019, Londonbeat collaborated with German DJ Klaas, who remixed the number one hit "I've Been Thinking About You". The remix reached the top 10 on the Billboard Dance chart.

The Lisa Marie Experience is a project created by DJ and house producers D Ramirez (born Aug 13, Dean Marriott) and Neil Hynde. Together they are best known for their version of Musique's "(Keep on) Jumpin'". It topped the UK Dance charts twice (April/August) in 1996.

Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were an American hip-hop and R&B group. The group consisted of singler Lisa Velez (Jan 15) and musicians iIke Hughes and Alexander Mosely. "Let the beat hit 'em" was #1 on both US (3 weeks in July) and Canada dance charts (1 week in August) in 1991.

Liquid

Liquid are an English dance act consisting of AME (Eamon Downes) and DJ Model (Shane Heneghan). They are best known for the debut track, "Sweet harmony", which layered the house music of CeCe Rogers' "Someday" over rolling breakbeats. First released in 1992, it reached #15 in the UK singles chart. Upon remix and second release, it reached #14 and was also #1 on the UK dance chart.

LFO

Low Frequency Oscillation (or LFO for short) was a UK dance electronica outfit created by Gez Varley and Mark Bell. Their biggest was the self-titled track, "LFO", which included a sample of a Speak'n'Spell going "L, F, O". DJ Martin (Martin Williams) helped to coproduce "LFO".

Leonard Albert Kravitz, better known as Lenny Kravitz is an American born (May 26) singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor. Legacy of Sound / Meja

Legacy of Sound is the musical project created by Australian Mick Cardy in 1992. Cardy is an instrumental composer and independent artist who often collaborates with a variety of vocalists and musicians covering various musical styles. One of the collaborations was with Swedish singer, Meja (Meja Anna Pernilla Kullersten) who would go on to have a top 20 hit in the UK with "All about the Money".

La Bouche/Le Click

La Bouche is a German Eurodance act created by Frank Farian. During the 1990s, it was fronted by American born (May 13) singer Melanie Thornton and American (Apr 13) rapper/singer Lane McCray. Their biggest hits were "Be my lover" which was their only UK Top 40 hit and #1 in Germany, Italy and Holland as well on both the Canada and US Dance charts and "Sweet Dreams", which was Canada dance #1 in 1994.

Before La Bouche, both Melanie Thornton and Lane McCray Jr were also on the Le Click project and Thornton was featured on "Tonight is the night" in 1994. Le Click eventually replaced them with Kayo Shekoni and Robert Haynes with them, they had #1 on the Canada Dance chart in 1997 with "Call me". It also scraped into the UK Top 40.

What happened next?
Sadly, Melanie Thornton died in an airline crash on November 24, 2001 promoting the single "Wonderful dream (holidays are coming)". The song would be posthumous top 5 in Austria, Germany and Switerzland. Lane McCray brought back La Bouche in 2007 and continues produce songs including "One night in Heaven" with Zsofi Cairo and "Rhythm of love" in 2020.

Kylie

Kylie Minogue or just Kylie is an Australian born (May 28) singer, songwriter and actress. She came to attention in the UK as Charlene in then popular Oz soap, "Neighbours". She left the soap and launched her pop career starting with Little Eva's "The Locomotion" in Australia but it was debut single "I should be lucky" in 1988 that really kicked things off. Into the 1990s where she started with her only UK #1 hit, a cover version of Little Anthony's "Tears on my pillow" from the movie, "The Delinquents". She had three more UK #2 hits in "Better the devil you know", Chairman of Board's "Give me just a little more time" and "Confide in me". She also collaborated with Keith Washington on "If you were with me now" and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds on "Where the wild roses grow".

KWS

KWS are an English dance act consisting of producers Chris King and Winston "Winnie" Williams, and vocalist Delroy St. Joseph. The name comes the first letter of each member's surname. They are best known for taking KC and Sunshine Band's "Please don't go" to #1 on the UK chart for 5 weeks in May 1992. Around same time, a second version by the group Double You, which was #1 in Belgium and Holland and generally big in Europe, stalled at #41 in the UK. KWS' other UK top 10 was a cover of George McCrae's "Rock your baby".

Kristine W

Kristine Weitz, better known as Kristine W is an American born (Jun 3) Dance-Pop, House, Hi-NRG and Smooth Jazz singer-songwriter. She has styled herself as the Queen of Dance Music. During the 1990s, she had 3 Hot Dance Club #1 hits with "Feel what you want", "One more try" and "Land of the living". The latter named was also the name of the album containing those 3 hits.

Anne-Kristine Blond better known as Kristine Blond is a Danish born (Apr 16) singer who is best known for spending 1 week at #1 on UK Dance Chart in April 1998.

Kristine Blond reached the UK Top 40 again with "You Make Me Go Oooh" (#35) in 2001. She recorded "A Day Without You", which was the theme tune for the Dutch TV show, Star Academy.
In 2008, Blond released a self-titled album changing musical direction to a more acoustic and non-commercial sound and began to write her own songs.

K-Klass have also been involved with producing and remixing tracks by other artists. K-Klass was one of the producers on the Pet Shop Boys album, Bilingual and their remix of "Baby Come On Over" by Samantha Mumba was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 in the Best Remix category. They have been credited as producers for Candi Staton, Rebekah Ryan, Rosie Gaines and The Corrs. They have been credited with as remixers for Carleen Anderson, Bobby Brown, Sunscreem, Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell, S Club 7 ("Bring It All Back") and M People.
In 2013, the collaboration with Lempo and Japwow on Applique Music, entitled "Brass Attack" was featured on the album Done & Dusted.

KLF is an English duo comprising of Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond. KLF are arguably best known for their UK and US Dance chart topper "3am eternal" and their collaboration with legendary country icon Tammy Wynette on Canada Dance chart #1, "Justified and Ancient". Before the 90s, KLF recorded under the name Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (or JAMMs). They changed they name to release a novelty single "Doctorin' the Tardis", which inadvertently put them into the mainstream as that became a UK#1 in 1988. They renamed themselves as KLF (which stood for Kopyright Liberation Front and launched a series of successful singles with an upbeat pop-house sound which they dubbed "Stadium House". Notorious at the height of the popularity decidesd to call time in dramatic style in their appearance on the 1992 BRIT awards, where they fired machine gune blanks into the audience in their performance with Extreme Noise Terror. They dumped a dead sheep at the aftershow party and the announced their departure from the music business and consequently deleted their entire back catalogue. As stated in "3am eternal", The KLF had left the building.

What happened next?
With The KLF's profits, Drummond and Cauty established the K Foundation and sought to subvert the art world, staging an alternative art award for the worst artist of the year and burning one million pounds sterling. Although Drummond and Cauty remained true to their word of May 1992—the KLF Communications catalogue remains deleted in the UK—they have released a small number of new tracks since then, as the K Foundation, The One World Orchestra and most recently, in 1997, as 2K.
The KLF catalogue remained absent from digital platforms until January 1, 2021, when an 8-track compilation of their 7" hit singles 1988-1991 - Solid State Logik 1 was released on streaming platforms, marking the 1st installment of a series called Samplecity Thru Trancentral.
KLF also published a book, The Manual, and worked on a road movie called The White Room.

Kim Smith, better known as Kim Wilde is an English born (Nov 18) singer. Probably better known for her 80s exploits (e.g. "Kids in America", "You keep me hanging on" and "You came"). She had 3 UK top 40 hits including her version of the Yvonne Elliman disco classic "If I can't have you".

Kim Appleby

Kim Loraine Appleby better known as Kim Appleby is an English singer, songwriter, and actress. She participated in the duo Mel and Kim, with her sister Melanie Appleby, until her sister's death from pneumonia following treatment for cancer. Kim released her first solo album Kim Appleby, in November 1990. The album included songs co-written with Mel for what was intended to be the next "Mel and Kim" album, alongside other songs that Kim had composed following Mel's passing. One of these songs, "Don't Worry", was selected as the first single, and reached number two in the British charts in November 1990, as well as being a huge hit in Europe. As a result, "Don't Worry" was nominated for a prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song in 1991.

What happened next?
Kim Appleby's last releases were "What's not to love" in 2016 and as a featured artist with Vicarious Bliss on "Whatever makes you happy" in 2017. Kim also co-presented the BBC show,"Smashing Hits! The 80s Pop Map of Britain and Ireland" and also did an interview in 2018.

Kenny Thomas is an English born (Sep 12) soul singer who had a successful solo career in the 1990s with eight UK top 40 singles. He is best known for his version of the Gap Band's "Outstanding" and the top 5 hit follow-up "Thinking about your love".

She had 2 US Dance #1 with "Lifted by love" (August 1994) and "If I were you" (January 1996).
