JX

Jake Williams better known as the stage name JX is a British born electronic music producer and remixer. Best known for the anthemic tracks "Son of a gun" and "There's nothing I won't do". The latter reaching the top of the UK Dance chart in May 1996. "Close to Your Heart" also reached UK/Dance #1 in March 1997. JX used Shena as the female vocalist on "You belong to me" and "There's nothing I won't do"

Juliet Roberts

Juliet Roberts is an English born (May 6) jazz, rock and house music singer. She originally recorded as Julie Roberts in 1982. Her early years were part of jazz group, Working Week and she had carved out a career as an in-demand backing vocalist. During the 90s, Juliet had two US Dance #1s with "I want you" (March 1994) and "Caught in the middle" (July 1994). The latter was arguably best known in the UK. Juliet Roberts also contributed on David Morales/The Face's "Needin' you"

Josh Wink

Joshua Winkelman, better known as Josh Wink is an American born (Apr 20) electronic music DJ, producer and remixer. He best known for "Higher State of Consciousness" reached #1 on UK Dance chart the two times it was released (1995 and 1996).

In 1995, Wink became one of the first DJ-producers to translate his hard work into mainstream success when he unleashed a string of classics including 'Don't Laugh'¸ 'I'm Ready' and 'Higher State of Consciousness' that topped charts worldwide. More recently he has had massive club hits such as 'How's Your Evening So Far' and 'Superfreak' but he has also gained a lot of attention trough his remixes for FC Kahuna, Paul Oakenfold, Ladytron, Clint Mansell, Sting and Depeche Mode, among others.

Jocelyn Enriquez

Jocelyn EnriquezJocelyn Enriquez is a Philippine-American born (Dec 28) dance-pop singer. She holds the distinction of being the first Filipino American to make it in the mainstream music industry. Dubbed as the new "Queen of Freestyle", Enriquez was the first artist to be signed by Classified Records, a Filipino-owned recording company when it was established in 1993.

Enriquez's single "Do You Miss Me?" reached #49 on the Billboard singles chart, #7 in Singapore, and #12 in Canada. The followup "A Little Bit of Ecstasy" was #1 on US Dance Sales chart as it reached #55 on Billboard singles chart although the song was alledgedly ripped off. She teamed up with Ultra Nate and Amber as Stars on 54 as they took their version Gordon Lightfoot's "If you could read my mind" into the UK Top 40 and was #1 on the Canada dance chart.

Jocelyn Brown

Jocelyn Brown is an American born (Nov 25) soul singer. Before the 90s, she was known for her work with multiple groups and her solo hit "Somebody else's guy". During the 90s, she had several hits as a featured artist with Incognito, Right Said Fred, Kym Mazelle and Martha Wash on Todd Terry's "Keep on Jumpin'", which spent 1 week at #1 on US Dance Chart in August 1996. Jocelyn had another US Dance #1 when featured on Da Mob's "Fun" in April 1998. Her collaboration with Nuyorican Soul earned two UK Dance chart toppers with "It's Alright I Feel It" and "I Am the Black Gold of the Sun"

JK

JK was an Eurodance project made up by Italian producers Larry Pignagnoli and Davide Riva (who most famously produced Whigfield). The project was fronted in videos and on stage by Polish model, Marta Simlat. It later was revealed, Simlat did not supply any of vocals to any their songs. Early songs like "You make me feel good" and "You and I" were sung by Giovanna Bersola (Jenny B). Later songs from "My Radio" onwards were performed by Sandra Chambers (Sandy) and Annerley Gordon (Ann Lee). JK scored 2 Canada Dance #1s with "You and I" in 1995 and "My Radio" in 1996.

Jinny

Jinny is an Italian group (not to be confused with the UK wrestler of the same name) consisting of Alessandro Gilardi, Claudio Varola, Federico Di Bonaventura and Walter Cremonini and various singers including Sandy Chambers and Carryl Varley as a lip-synching model for the music videos. They are best known for "Keep Warm", which spent 2 weeks at #1 on UK Dance Chart in July 1995. I would have liked them remix the song by Rednex and call it Cotton-Eyed Jinny.

Jesus Jones

Jesus Jones is an English alternative/rock band consisting of Mike Edwards, Jerry De Borg, Al Doughty, Iain Baker and Gen (Simon Matthews). After early failed incarnations "Camouflage" and "Big Colour", they achieved success under Jesus Jones, which their only UK Top 10 hit being "International Bright Young Thing". Stateside, they are known for US top 5 hits "Real Real Real" and "Right here right now". In dance terms, their last UK top 40 hit, "Zeroes & Ones" was raved up by Prodigy in 1993.

Edgar Robin Albers better known as JayDee is a Dutch house music producer and DJ. He is best known for "Plastic Dreams", which spent 1 week at #1 on US Dance Chart in July 1993. It didn't chart in the UK again but was released again in 1997, where it reached the top 20.

Jann Arden

Jann Arden Anne Richards (or just Jann Arden) is a Canadian born (Mar 27) singer and songwriter. She is best known for the ablum "Living under June" which featured the songs "Could I be your girl?" and "Insensitive", which made #12 on the US chart.

Jann Arden toured with Michael Bublé on the US and European legs of his 2005 tour, and again toured with him on his 2007 US tour. She sang "O Canada" at the 2006 NBA All-Star Game. She was a judge on season three of Top Chef Canada, episode 13 entitled "Wild Rose Finale", where she was the judge in the elimination portion of the episode. Arden discussed the background to "Could I be your girl?" on a Behind the Vinyl feature. In 2020, Arden was named by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences as its 2020 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Janet Jackson

Janet Damita Jo Jackson, better known as Janet Jackson or just Janet is an American born (May 16) singer and actress. She is a member of the Jackson family but is very much an icon in her own right. During the 90s, she had 6 US #1s with "Escapade", "Black Cat", "Love will never do", "That's the way love goes", "Again" and "Together again". "Rhythm Nation", "Alright", "If", "Got til it's gone", "Go deep" were also US Dance #1s. "I get lonely" was another song to reach #1 but on the UK dance chart. I the UK, she had 22 Top 20 hits, of which half of those were Top 10 but alas no UK#1. Although her album "Janet" was UK#1 on the album chart.

Jam & Spoon

Jam & Spoon were a German electronic music duo consisting of Jam El Mar (real name: Rolf Ellmer) and Mark Spoon (real name: Markus Loffel). They are best known for working with vocalist Plavka Lonich on the UK Top 10 hit and Canada Dance #1, "Right in the Night". Jam and Spoon had a harder house project called "Tokyo Ghetto Pussy", which is best known for spending 5 weeks as Canada Dance #1 in February 1995 and "I kiss your lips". Another project was "Storm", which yielded a top 40 hit (UK#32) in 1998. Jam was also a member of Dance 2 Trance.

Jamiroquai

Jamiroquai are an English funk and acid jazz band formed and fronted by Jay Kay (born Dec 30 as Jason Kay). The group consisted of Derrick McKenzie on drums, Toby Smith on a keyboard, Stuart Zender on bass, Wallis Buchanan on vibraphone and Simon Katz on guitar. Jamiroquai is named after an Iroquois native American tribe. They are best known for songs/videos like "Virtual Insanity", "Cosmic Girl" and UK chartopper "Deeper Underground". Their debut album "Emergency on the planet earth" went #1 on UK album chart and spawned several singles including the Top 10 hit, "Too young to die". Their second album "Return of the Space Cowboy" was just as successful with another top 10 single, "Stillness in time" and a US Dance #1 in 1995. Their third album "Travelling Without Moving" spawned arguably their biggest singles "Virtual Insanity", "Cosmic Girl" and "Alright". They had UK#1 single "Deeper underground" from the Roland Emmerich film, "Godzilla" in 1998. Another #1 album "Synkronized" spawned US Dance #1 hit "Canned heat".

Jade

Jade is an American R&B trio originially consisting of Joi Marshall, Angela Slates and Debra Mitchell whose initially make up the group name (without the 'e'). However, Tonya Kelly and Di Reed replaced Slates and Mitchell before they even got started. Their first single, "I Wanna Love You" came from The Kid'n'Play comedy "Class Act". The follow-up "Don't walk away" was more successful and was top 10 in the UK. (Consequently "I wanna love you" was re-released and made the top 20).

Di Reed is currently touring the world as a featured vocalist for Rod Stewart and continues her professional singing career by lending her vocal talents to support numerous high-profile music projects and industry heavyweights including Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Christina Aguilera, Elton John, Gwen Stefani, and many others. Tonya Kelly changed careers and gone into interior design and architecture.
The original members of Jade (Jad) went on to become successful in their own right. Angela Slates became a successful music producer (producing songs for Trina & Tamara, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Vybe, Somethin' for the People and Eric Benet) and earned a Ph.D. in education. Debra Mitchell (now known as Debra Mitchell-Adams) became a member of the group Vybe on Island Records and owns Legacy Global Music Group.
In 2014, Myracle Holloway joined the group (replacing Di Reed who was still touring with Rod Stewart) and the group released a new single "Baby Luv." They were recording an album titled "Continuum".
In February 2018, Joi Marshall debuted her new solo single "Love Language."

Inner City

Inner City is an American electronic music group formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1987. The group was originally composed of the record producer and composer Kevin Saunderson and the Chicago, Illinois, vocalist Paris Grey. They are best known for the late 80s dance classics "Big Fun" and "Good Life". A Spanish remix of the latter provided the group, the biggest UK hit in the 1990s when it reached #10. They scored a billboard dance #1 in 1992 with "Pennies from Heaven" and "Your love" reached #1 on the UK dance chart.

Inner Circle Jamaican group consisted of brothers Roger Lewis and Ian Lewis on guitar and bass (together with different backing players also known as the Fatman Riddim Section), Bernard "Touter" Harvey on keyboards and lead singer Jacob Miller were responsible for the international successful career of Inner Circle with the pro Weed / anti cocaine hymn "Mary Mary" and the Island Gold Album "Everything Is Great" in late 1979 / early 1980. Best known for "Sweat" and "Bad Boys" (theme song of American show "Cops" and "Bad Boys" franchise)

House of Pain

House of Pain was an Irish-American hip hop group. Everlast (Erik Schrody) was part of Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate. Everlast formed House of Pain with high school friend Danny Boy (Daniel O'Connor) and DJ Lethal (Leor DiMant) in 1990. The group was best known for the 1992/1993 hit single "Jump around"

Herbie

Herbert St. Clair Crichlow Herbie is a British (Nov 26) singer, songwriter and producer but living in Sweden. He worked together with Max Martin, RedOne and Denniz Pop. Crichlow is noted for writing hit singles for Backstreet Boys including "Quit playing games" and "We've got it going on". Crichlow is a 4-time ASCAP-awarded for "Most played song of the year". He recorded one album "Fingers", which included the 1995 Canada Dance #1 hit, "Right type of mood."

Heavy D & The Boyz

Dwight Errington Myers, better known as Heavy D was a Jamaican born (May 24) American rapper, record producer, singer and actor. Heavy D and the Boyz (Eddie, G-Wiz and Trouble T-Roy) formed and signed to Uptown in 1986 and released 'Livin' Large' the following year. Tragically in 1990, Trouble T-Roy was killed in an accident. Subsequently, Heavy D. released "Peaceful Journey", a tribute to his long-time friend. "Now That We Found Love" was an international hit reaching #2 in the UK, #1 on the Canada Dance chart and went gold (reached #11) in the USA.

What happened next?
Heavy D later joined the Uptown Records team and began managing the company before it folded. He also began an acting career. As an actor, Heavy D is perhaps best known for his role in the 1999 drama film The Cider House Rules, where he plays a migrant worker. He fathered a daughter in 2000 with chef Antonia Lofaso, a contestant on the fourth season of Top Chef. Heavy D's final live performance was with Eddie F at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards on October 11, 2011, their first live televised performance together in 15 years. Myers died on November 8, 2011, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 44. He collapsed outside his home in Beverly Hills, California, and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. His death was initially thought to be connected to pneumonia.

Happy Clappers

Happy Clappers was an English outfit consisting of Chris Scott, Graeme Ripley, Mark Topham, Martin Knotts, Sandra Edwards and Scott Bradford. They are best known for the dance song "I believe", which was remixed a few times and was #1 on the UK dance charts twice in 1995 and also a Canada Dance #1.

What happened next?
Odd fact is that despite having 4 UK Top 30 hits, Happy Clappers only released an album, "Games" in 1997 when they disbanded. I Believe was never released in the US until American producer Chris Cox remixed it in 2002. It achieved major club success peaking at number one on the US Club Play charts.

Stanley Kirk Burrell Hammer, MC Hammer,is an American born (Mar 30) singer and rapper. He was successful during the 1980s and early 1990s. He was mostly known for his dance moves, baggy pants and his song "U Can't Touch This".

What happened next?
Hammer's lavish lifestyle and falling album sales eventually led him to filing for bankruptcy. He made numerous TV appearances and made the odd movie appearance too. He is still known for dancing and chereography including a dance style called hyphy. He has always maintained his Christian beliefs and has go on pastoral ministry.

Haddaway

Nestor Alexander Haddaway (or just Haddaway) is an Trinidadian-born (Jan 9) Eurodance singer and is best known for the international hit, "What is Love?" Haddaway's 1993 self-titled debut album spawned several hit singles, along with 'What is Love?', there was "Life", which spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Canada dance chart and UK Top 10 hits, "I miss you" and "Rock my heart". His second album "The Drive" (released in 1995 had a few hits as well.

Gusto

Edward Lee Greene, better known as Gusto is an American house producer and DJ. Best known for "Disco's Revenge", which was a UK Dance chart #1 in March 1996 and on the Canada dance chart in April 1996. Before his success, Ed was a rapper and also established and ran the Soul Power Records label as well working as a residential specialist helper for people with disabilities.

Guru Josh

Paul Dudley Walden Guru Josh was a British born (Jun 6) DJ and dance music producer from the Channel Islands. Best known the 90s anthem, "Infinity (time for the 90s)"

After 2 years playing the club circuit on the back of his success with "Infinity", Guru Josh started producing fractal videos with great success. He also made video graphics for MTV. Infinity was remixed and was a hit again in 2008 when it reached #3 in the UK. Unfortunately he passed away in Balearic Islands in 2015.

The Grid are an English electronic dance group, consisting of David Ball (born May 3, formerly of Soft Cell) and Richard Norris (born Jun 23), with guest contributions from other musicians. They are best known for the dance track, "Swamp Thing", which reached #3 in the UK charts.

Goodmen

Goodmen is an older monkier used by the duo, Chocolate Puma. They are a Dutch DJ and music production duo, consisting of DJ Zki (Rene ter Horst) and Dobre (Gaston Steenkist). They are best known for "Give it up", which was the dance chart #1 in US (November 1993) and Canada (January 1994). The song was sampled by "Simply Red" on their 1995 UK #1 hit "Fairground".

What happened next?
Chocolate Puma didn't use "The Goodmen" monkier after "Give it up" and primarily went by Chocolate Puma. Although other monikers were used. The most infamous one would be as Riva where they collaborated with Dannii Minogue on the UK Top 3 hit "Who do you love now?" in 2001. As Chocolate Puma, their biggest hit in the UK was "I wanna be u", which reached #6 in the UK in 2001. Their most recent release was "It ain't right" in September 2020.
