Cornershop

Cornershop are a British indie rock band from Preston and best known for the UK #1 debut hit "Brimful of Asha". The band was born in 1992 originally composed of Tjinder Singh and Benedict Ayres before Tjinder's brother, Avtar, joined with Anthony Saffery & DJ David D Chambers. The band name plays on the stereotype referring to British Asians often owning corner shops. Their music is a fusion of Indian music, indie rock, alternative and electronic dance music. "Brimful of Asha" initially failed to chart in August 1997. But when Norman Cook of Fatboy Slim fame got his hands on it and remixed it. It got all the way to the top for one week in February 1998.
