Nicholas Bracegirdle, known professionally as Chicane, is a British born (Feb 28) musician, composer, songwriter and record producer. Among his works, he is best known in the 1990s for thr singles "Offshore", an Ibiza trance anthem included in many compilations in both chill-out and dance versions that spent 1 week at #1 on the UK Dance chart in December 1996. Also "Saltwater" featuring Maire Brennan was UK Dance #1 in June 1999.
Bracegirdle first attracted attention along with Leo Elstob as the duo, Disco Citizens, with the UK Top 40 hit "Right Here Right Now" in 1995. They continued to work together as Disco Citizens and remixed their own track "Offshore", which had been released under their Chicane guise as their second release Offshore EP #1. Whereas the original version of "Offshore" was an ambient track, the more dance floor friendly remix by Disco Citizens gave them huge commercial success.
Elstob later departed but Bracegirdle continued as a solo artist and later enlisted Clannad's Maire Brennan for a remake of their 1982 hit "Theme From Harry's Game" under the title "Saltwater", which reached the UK Top 10 and became an international hit.
