Chemical Brothers

The Chemical Brothers are a British electronic music duo composed of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, originating from Manchester in 1989. Tom and Ed met in history class at Manchester University. They started off as DJs known as "The 237 Turbo Nutters" (named after the number of their house on Dickenson Road in Manchester and a reference to their Blackburn raving days). They then opted for "The Dust Brothers" which they nicked from the L.A. producers of "Pauls Boutique" (as they thought they would never be famous). In 1995 they changed their name to "The Chemical Brothers" after the real Dust Brothers threatened to sue.
Along with the Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, and other fellow acts, they were pioneers at bringing the big beat genre to the forefront of pop culture. They achieved widespread success when their second album "Dig Your Own Hole" topped the UK charts in 1997, which featured the UK #1s "Setting Sun" with Noel Gallagher from Oasis and "Block Rockin' Beats" with vocals from rapper Schooly D. They had 3 UK Dance #1s with "Leave Home", "Hey boy hey girl" and "Out of Control". THey have worked many of leading lights of the Manchester scene including Tim Burgess of the Charlatans and Bernard Sumner of New Order.
