Back in 1991, Bryan Adams reached UK#1 with a little known song from the movie "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves".
Little did we know "(Everything I do) I do it for you" would spend a record-breaking 16 weeks on top. He would also reach US#1 a few weeks later.
In the meantime, Paula Abdul was holding on to US#1 for a 5th week with "Rush Rush". We forget how popular she was in the late 80s/early 90s as this was her 5th US#1.
To date, she has had 6 US#1s all told.
Back in 1996, Fugees achieved the novelty of bouncing back to UK#1 after previously spending 4 weeks on top with the old Roberta Flack hit "Killing me softly".
Meanwhile back in the states, hip-hop outfit Bone Thugs'n'Harmony spent their 8th and final week as US#1 with "Tha Crossroads".
